Queen in a Dress is more than just an organization; it’s a testament to the power of love, resilience, and community. Founded by Nakeya in honor of her late mother, our journey began as a way to turn pain into purpose.

After experiencing the loss of her mother to cancer, Nakeya channeled her grief into a mission to uplift and empower young women in need. Thus, Queen in a Dress was born, with a simple yet profound goal: to provide prom dresses, school dance attire, and essential resources to girls aged 6 through high school.

What started as a heartfelt endeavor has blossomed into a movement, touching the lives of over 1,000 young ladies since our inception 9 years ago. Each year, we host an annual event in Hampton Roads, Virginia where we provide dresses, accessories, and make-up with a personalized shopping experience because every girl deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and celebrated on their special day.

Our commitment to serving our community extends beyond just providing dresses. We believe in equipping young women with the tools they need to succeed beyond high school. From offering prom ticket assistance to providing college-bound students with success baskets, we strive to support our participants every step of the way.

However, our journey hasn’t been without its challenges.
